Product Overview

The RL-STEP-01-16 is a PIR motion-sensing stair light controller for DC12-24V LED systems, driving up to 16 steps of stair lighting with a cascading step-by-step effect. Two PIR sensors installed at the top and bottom of the stairs detect movement and trigger the lights to light up one step after another, then switch off automatically after a preset delay — a hands-free, energy-saving solution for staircases, hallways and entryways. This is the non-remote version (the RL-STEP-02-16 is the version with a remote).

Key Features

  • PIR Motion Sensing — Two PIR sensors (one at each end of the stairs) detect movement and trigger the lighting automatically.
  • 16-Step Cascading — Drives up to 16 steps, lighting up step by step for a flowing, sequential effect.
  • Adjustable Step Count — Set the number of active steps (1–16) with the Number key to match your staircase.
  • 9-Speed Adjustment — Choose from 9 transition speeds (250 ms to 1200 ms) to control how fast the lights cascade.
  • 9-Level Delay — Set the off delay from 2 s to 30 s after the sequence finishes.
  • 4-Level Brightness — Adjust brightness at 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% to suit the mood.
  • Wide Voltage Range — DC12-24V input, compatible with most low-voltage LED stair strip lighting.

  • Entryway and landing lighting systems
  • Indoor architectural LED illumination

How It Works

Two PIR sensors are installed at the top and bottom of the stairs. When a person approaches, the sensor detects the movement and signals the controller, which lights up the stair strips one step after another in a cascading effect. After the last step is lit and the preset delay (2–30 s) passes, the controller switches the lights off automatically — keeping the stairway lit exactly when it matters, and saving energy the rest of the time.

Installation Notes

  • Connect to a proper DC12-24V LED power supply; do NOT connect directly to mains 220V.
  • Install the two PIR sensors at the entrance and exit of the stairs, facing the walking path.
  • Match the power supply rating to the total wattage of the connected stair lights (each step < 15W, total < 240W).
  • Keep positive/negative wiring correct (V+ to positive, V- to negative) before powering on.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. What is the RL-STEP-01-16?
A1. It is a PIR motion-sensing stair light controller for up to 16 steps of LED stair lighting. It lights the stairs step by step when motion is detected, then switches off after a preset delay. This is the non-remote version.

Q2. What voltage does it use?
A2. DC12-24V low-voltage input. Use a matching LED driver and do not connect directly to mains 220V.

Q3. How many steps does it support?
A3. Up to 16 steps, adjustable from 1 to 16 with the Number key to match your staircase.

Q4. How much power can it drive?
A4. Each step under 15W, with a total load under 240W.

Q5. How do the sensors work?
A5. Two PIR sensors (installed at the top and bottom of the stairs) detect movement and trigger the step-by-step lighting automatically.

Q6. Can I adjust the speed, delay and brightness?
A6. Yes — 9 speed levels (250–1200 ms), 9 delay levels (2–30 s), and 4 brightness levels (25% / 50% / 75% / 100%)
.

Q7. Does this version come with a remote?
A7. No. This is the non-remote version (RL-STEP-01). The RL-STEP-02-16 is the version with a remote.

Q8. How should I install it?
A8. Place the two PIR sensors at the entrance and exit of the stairs facing the walking path, connect to a DC12-24V power supply, and keep the wiring polarity correct.
